Education is at its core.

Tempe is a center of education, culture, technology, and tourism located in the heart of the Valley of the Sun. It is a diverse and innovative community of 165,000 residents, a workforce of 175,000, and a student base of approximately 200,000. A vibrant urban oasis in Metropolitan Phoenix that is refreshingly offbeat, Tempe hosts family-friendly festivals, welcomes outdoor activities, and is the proud home of Arizona State University. In many ways, Tempe was built on a foundation of education and is now home to a curious, innovative community that is paving the way for a brighter tomorrow.

The City of Tempe’s leaders believe in the importance of education and maintain it as one of its core values. So much so, they invest in seven programs to assist students of all levels to succeed. From Tempe PRE, a city-supported pre-kindergarten program and Kid Zone Enrichment program to Read On Tempe and College Connect, there is foundational support from schools, city government, residents, and the business community to ensure student success.

Resources for every family

From here to career.

Tempe has been selected to join a new national cohort to accelerate the City’s design and launch of a workforce initiative that builds pathways into good jobs.

The Good Jobs, Great Cities Academy—led by the National League of Cities and the Department of Labor—works with municipalities to spur innovative and scalable city-supported solutions that upskill and reskill workers into quality, high-demand jobs in infrastructure, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing.

Tempe’s Office of Education, Career and Family Services will lead the City’s efforts, in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office, and the City’s Economic Development Department and Sustainability and Resilience Office. For more information, click here.

Tempe City Council

In Tempe, community and quality of life go hand in hand — and the City Council plays a central role in shaping them. Through its five strategic priorities, the Council invests in neighborhoods, parks, arts, human services, and education to ensure Tempe is a vibrant place to live and work.

Education, in particular, has long been at the heart of Tempe’s success. The Council partners with local school districts, ASU, and community organizations to expand opportunities for students and families, from early childhood programs to pathways preparing graduates for college and careers. This commitment keeps Tempe an education destination — and strengthens the foundation for a thriving community.
